Working with the Reno Police Department to make sure our events are as safe as possible
Now, as many of you may know, I had surgery a few weeks ago. Around that time, I made sure that not only my Special Event Permit application was faxed to the reno fire department, along with my insurance application for the event (Because I do get insurance to protect the people who come to my events, every time)
Both were faxed, and received. And I have the paperwork to show that as well. Now, since the party that Paul and I threw for Halloween (Now-Loween 3) I have not seen a member of the Reno Fire Department. I have received bills in the mail for the Special Event Permits, that is payable to the Reno Fire Department.
Now, let me talk about the special event permit process, for everyone here so you understand HOW EASY IT IS TO PLAY BY THE RULES.
You can go to, or call the Reno Fire Department (Located at 200 Evans Ave) and ask for a special events permit application. Then you are able to fill it out, and attach a floorplan for the building where the event will be located. This can be hand drawn, it doesn’t need to be to scale, just show all doors, and exits, ect.
So, you get that, you pay $100 for an inspection, and $50 for the permit, and a fire marshall will come to the building the day of your event and inspect what is going on, and drop off the permit to you.
There is also a Special Event Application that is available at the city of reno’s website, or in the business licensing division at city hall that you should fill out. That permit costs $100, and has at least a 15 day processing time.
This has been the way I have been getting permits for the last 4 years. This is my second show that has been closed earily due to police, and the third that has ended earily for any reason. Here is a list of my events, and the reasons they have been shut down.
Lollipop Love: Stoneys not having a business licence, so he could not operate
Tropicana: Stoneys got shut down, the owner lied and misrepresented my group as a high school fashion show to the Elks Lodge. Once they noticed that we were not a fashion show, they were pretty over it. Nobody likes being lied to.
Trauma: Shut down due to not having a receipt for payment to the reno fire department. I do have my faxed paperwork, and the transmission sheet from the fax machine saying it was sent. But, because someone at reno fire didn’t come down, it doesn’t count.
So, For the last three months, I have thought that the Reno Fire Department has been seeing the same application that they see every month, and the same floorplan, and would just decide to bill me. I was informed that this is not standard policy for them, and I need to go in and speak with whoever processes this paperwork. I also will be setting up a meeting with the head of the Special Investigation Group at the Reno Police Department to make sure that something like this never happens to one of my events again. Every officer that I spoke with was very happy with how every one of my staff, and security guards were running our event. To quote them directly “we are happy with how your event is run, and that you are giving kids a place to go so they aren’t on the streets downtown.”
So, with that being said, I’m sorry the event got shut down. I would like to thank everyone who made it happen. Big thanks to Jetson, and Alex, let’s do it again soon boys..
To everyone who wanted a refund. I would have no problem giving a refund if in-fact I did make money, but considering that I took a loss, I’m dealing with lost money the same as you are, and I’m sorry that you didn’t have a good time.
I’m going to be working on having something happen to makeup for this event. Hopefully in the next couple of months. Also, please be on the lookout for the donation report. It should be a good one!
Thank you all for your support, it means a lot.
