Andy
Andy first got a taste of the Electronic Music Community in 2003, and he decided that this was a lifestyle that he wanted to make his mark in. He began making a decent network of people to start helping him with his events. He also became a DJ in this time; but his main focus then, as it continues today, was to provide the Northern Nevada area with high quality events. This has kept him busy over the years, and this experience has helped to ensure that he throws the highest quality events possible.
In the fall of 2004 he decided to start Andy & Friends with a small group of friends and a few simple goals for the company. He wanted to make sure that he could give his customers a safe environment for them to come and dance with their friends to electronic music. With the support of his friends, he has been able to throw multiple events per month and give the community the consistency it needed to blossom. With each event growing more and more, the Northern Nevada community has grown to become a major player in the West Coast Electronic Music Scene.
After the events started to gain notoriety, Andy decided that he wanted to start trying to change the image of the Dance Music scene, especially locally. Andy started doing canned food drives at his events, and donating to different charities. These contributions have started getting noticed by our community, and it’s helping shed a more positive light on all electronic music events.
Genny
Genny has been attending dance music events in the northern Nevada/California area for almost a decade. Her love of music and people made her want to contribute more to the events she loved to attend. After attending Andy’s first party “Lollipop Love 1”, she knew she wanted to be involved in getting this production company off the ground.
Andy & Friends was conceived in December 2003 and produced its first event, Embrace, in February 2004. Genny assisted in staffing and handling details of the event. After that, it was all uphill! Andy & Friends has grown into a well known and respected production company that positively contributes to the Reno dance music scene. Now, Andy & Friends is one of the most popular production companies for Electronic Dance music events on the west coast.
Starting in 2006, Andy & Friends sponsored canned food drives at large events called the “Dollar For Pound” campaign. Guests bring one or more cans and get discounted $5 off their admission price. Within the next few days the food is donated and weighed at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, and one dollar for every pound is then donated to the Renown Foundation for Cancer Research. For Genny, this campaign is what keeps her motivated and enthusiastic about what the company is doing.
What makes Genny so proud to call herself part of Andy & Friends are the company’s constant attempts to give back to the community and donate to charitable causes, as well as the effort to change the reputation of the electronic dance music scene in Reno.
Daniel
From the time he was born, Daniel has had an ear for all different styles of music. His initial passion for music started around the time he was 5 when he started compiling “mix tapes” on his sisters boom box , consisting of Old School Rap & R & B . His tastes changed with the times and with what his parents had in their CD collections.
Finally he came across some Essential Mixes of Paul Oakenfold & Tiesto, which was able to strike a chord deep down. Once he heard this he was able to search and find more of this style of music that he had never heard before. Having an insatiable drive to find more of this music it eventually drove him to start DJing.
He’s been DJing in the Reno area for a little over a year now and is building a name for himself. If you’ve never heard him play, he has a distinct sound that can be easily distinguished from many of the DJs in the area. His sound is described as Minimal Techno. His hard work in this community has helped make many events better, starting with Blackout thrown by Andy & Friends on April 13th, 2007. His influence has helped bring a refreshed sound to the Reno rave scene, and will continue to take part in the evolving events of the future.
